- Interior and exterior walls.
1. Surface Cleanliness:
- The surface must be dry, clean, and free from dust, grease, oil, loose particles, paint, and any other contaminants.
- Remove loose materials using a wire brush, scraper, or sandpaper.
- Structural Soundness:
- Ensure the substrate is firm, solid, and well-cured.
- Avoid applying skim coat on damp, chalky, or powdery surfaces.
2. Crack & Hole Filling:
- For deeper cracks or holes, use a suitable patching material and let it dry before skim coat application.
3. Moisture Check:
- If the substrate is newly plastered, allow curing for at least 14–21 days before application.
4. Priming (if required):
- On very absorbent or chalky surfaces, apply a bonding primer or sealer to enhance adhesion.
5. Application Readiness:
- Dampen the wall slightly (not wet) before applying the skim coat to prevent rapid water loss.
- Mix Macksons Skim Coat as per product instructions and apply using a trowel in thin, even layers.
