1. Surface Condition
- Ensure the surface is:
- Dry – No moisture or damp patches.
- Clean – Free from dust, oil, grease, wax, and loose particles.
- Smooth – Chalkboard functionality requires an even surface.
2. Surface Preparation by Substrate
- For Wood, MDF, or Hardboard:
- Sand the surface using fine-grit sandpaper (e.g., 220–320 grit) to achieve a smooth base.
- Fill holes or imperfections with Multilac Wood Putty.
- Sand again and clean with a dry cloth.
- Apply Multilac NC Wood Primer if needed, especially on bare wood.
- For Plaster/Cement Walls:
- Ensure the surface is fully cured (at least 28 days) if new.
- Remove any dust, chalk, or loose particles.
- Fill cracks with appropriate wall filler, then sand smooth.
- Apply a Multilac Water-Based Wall Primer or Acrylic Wall Sealer.
- For Previously Painted Surfaces:
- Lightly sand to remove sheen and promote adhesion.
- Clean thoroughly with a dry cloth or tack rag.
3. Final Cleaning
- Use a dry, lint-free cloth to remove all dust and residue before painting.
- Do not use water or damp cloths before application.
4. Ready for Painting
- Once the surface is:
- Clean
- Smooth
- Dry
- You can proceed with applying Multilac Black Board Paint using a brush, roller, or spray.
