- Iron.
- Steel and other metal surfaces.
1. Surface Cleaning
- Remove all contaminants such as dirt, grease, oil, rust, and loose paint.
- Use a degreaser or mild detergent for oily surfaces.
- Rinse with clean water and allow to dry completely.
2. Surface Preparation by Material Type
- For New or Bare Metal (Steel/Iron):
- Remove rust and mill scale using:
- Wire brushing.
- Sanding.
- Mechanical or abrasive blasting (preferred for industrial use)
- Clean the surface to the SA 2.5 standard if abrasive blasting.
- Apply a compatible anticorrosive primer (e.g., Multilac Red Oxide Primer or Zinc Phosphate Primer) before applying aluminum paint.
- For Galvanized or Non-Ferrous Metal:
- Lightly roughen the surface using fine sandpaper or Scotch-Brite to promote adhesion.
- Clean with etching solution or degreaser.
- Use a suitable etch primer (e.g., Multilac G.I. Adhesion Promoter) if needed. Drying Before Painting: Allow all primers to fully dry (typically 8–12 hours).
- Ensure the surface is cool and dry before applying Multilac Bright Aluminum Paint.
