1. Cleaning the Surface
- Remove all dirt, grease, oil, algae, mould, soap scum, and loose particles.
- Use a high-pressure water wash and a degreasing detergent or trisodium phosphate (TSP) solution for oily surfaces.
- Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry completely.
2. Surface Preparation by Pool Condition
- New Concrete Pools:
- Allow concrete to cure for at least 28 days.
- Acid-etch the surface using a 10% hydrochloric acid (muriatic acid) solution to open pores and promote adhesion.
- Rinse thoroughly with water until the pH is neutral.
- Let dry for at least 24–48 hours.
- Previously Painted Pools:
- Check for compatibility: Multilac Swimming Pool Paint should not be applied over incompatible coatings (e.g., chlorinated rubber or epoxy if it is a different system).
- Remove loose, flaking, or blistered paint by sanding or scraping.
- Sand glossy or smooth paint to a dull finish.
- Power wash thoroughly and let the surface fully dry.
- Cracks or Surface Defects:
- Repair cracks, holes, or damaged areas with hydraulic cement or epoxy-based filler.
- Allow to dry and cure before painting.
3. Moisture Testing
- Surface must be dry before application.
- Tape a plastic sheet (about 2’x2’) to the surface and leave for 24 hours. If no condensation forms underneath, the surface is dry enough.
4. Priming & Painting
- Priming is not usually required on properly etched concrete, but check the product label.
- Apply Multilac Swimming Pool Paint using a brush, roller, or spray.
- Follow recommended drying time between coats (typically 6–8 hours, depending on weather).
- Apply at least 2 coats for proper film build and durability.
5. Curing Before Filling Pool
- Allow the painted surface to cure for 7 days before refilling the pool with water.
