- Wooden surfaces such as softwood, hardwood, plywood, and chipboard.
1. Surface Cleaning
- Ensure the surface is dry, clean, and free from dust, grease, wax, resin, and loose particles.
- If there are signs of fungal or mould growth, treat with an appropriate fungicidal wash and let it dry.
- Use a cloth with mineral spirits or turpentine to wipe off any oily spots.
2. Surface Preparation Steps
- For New/Bare Wood:
- Sand the surface with medium to fine-grit sandpaper (e.g., 180–220 grit) to smooth it and open the grain.
- Remove sanding dust completely using a clean cloth or vacuum.
- Fill any cracks, holes, or defects with wood filler and sand smooth again.
- For Previously Painted Wood:
- Remove all loose, flaking, or peeling paint using a scraper or sanding.
- Feather the edges of the remaining paint to blend with the bare wood.
- Degrease and sand lightly to ensure adhesion.
- If the old paint is glossy, sand to a dull finish.
3. Pre-Priming Checks
- Ensure the moisture content in wood is below 15%.
- Surface must be completely dry and free from dampness before applying primer.
4. Application Notes
- Stir the primer thoroughly before use.
- Apply one uniform coat using a brush or roller.
- Allow adequate drying (usually 8–12 hours) before applying topcoat or sanding.
